4. Content
Content description
A single-volume edition of the works of François Rabelais —Gargantua, the four books of Pantagruel and the Fifth Book—, with modernized spelling and punctuation. Louis Barré revises the text against the best witnesses (Le Duchat, S. de L'Aulnaye, P. L. Jacob) and accompanies it with a biographical and literary notice on Rabelais, concise footnotes, a glossary of Rabelais's language and a "supposed key to the allegories" of Gargantua and Pantagruel. It includes several fragments and two chapters of the Fifth Book restored from a manuscript in the Bibliothèque Impériale.
