Content description
A novel by Conrad set in late nineteenth-century London. Mr Verloc, a secret agent and informer who keeps a disreputable shop in Soho, is ordered by an embassy to carry out a bomb attack on the Greenwich Observatory in order to provoke a crackdown on anarchist circles. The plan goes horribly wrong and drags his wife, Winnie, into tragedy. An ironic and sombre tale of terrorism, politics, betrayal and domestic life, regarded as one of Conrad's masterpieces.
