Content description
One of Conrad's major novels, first published in 1900. Jim, a young merchant-navy officer, abandons the steamer Patna and its pilgrims in a moment of panic; disgrace pursues him and drives him to seek redemption in a remote Eastern settlement, Patusan, where he becomes "Tuan Jim", the Lord Jim of the title. Narrated largely by Marlow, the novel probes honour, guilt and the impossibility of escaping one's own act. A volume of the Uniform Edition of Conrad's works, with the author's note.
